In the context of our archaeological study on the development of cattle ranches in the Magdalena and Punta Indio districts of Buenos Aires during the 19th and early 20th centuries, we present the initial findings from our research at the rural Esquivel site in the Magdalena district, situated on the Samborombón River coast. We analyzed archaeological materials from a private collection and our own archaeological work. This information was then articulated with a diverse set of documentary sources from various repositories, as well as interviews with current inhabitants. The archaeological assemblage consists primarily of vitreous materials, as well as a smaller quantity of earthenware and stoneware fragments. The site is chronologically assigned to the 19th century and interpreted as the living area of a cattle ranch with possible associated commercial functions. This work sheds light on daily consumption practices, the occupation of space, and the construction of the landscape in this region. Additionally, it contributes to our understanding of the social dynamics of the area, a topic that has been scarcely explored in rural studies of the 19th century.
