This essay examines scientific tourism as a form of emerging tourism that, despite its growing visibility at both national and international levels, continues to reflect heterogeneous concepts and approaches. In response, it proposes a critical reflection on the underlying principles, frameworks, and relationships that could support its development. Adopting an inter- and transdisciplinary, systemic, and territorial perspective, scientific tourism is explored as an integrative tool linking science, tourism, and society, with the potential to contribute to local development processes. Within this framework, key transversal elements such as public communication of science, education, and territorial heritage are emphasised. The essay also highlights the importance of technological engagement through agreements, services, consultancy, and collaborations, alongside the need for multisectoral and multilevel articulation. Ultimately, scientific tourism is conceived not merely as a tourism product, but as a process of socioterritorial construction.
