This work aims to analyse and describe the relationship between immigration and "mental alienation" since the end of the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century in Argentina. The purpose is to understand the confinement processes of migrant women, whose number increases during the analysed period. A qualitative-quantitative analysis was applied to clinical records of women confined and died between 1895 and 1940 in “Asilo de Alienadas de Lomas de Zamora” mental hospital. These data are interpreted in the context of the socio-political, demographic and economic processes that the country is going through, which, at the same time, permeate the production of discourses and practices from medical, criminological and legal knowledge. To conclude, a gender perspective enables the visualization of medical procedures and decisions based on established stereotypes for the era rather than on "scientific knowledge". In this regard, the relationships established between migratory processes and "mental alienation" acquire distinctive characteristics for migrant women: certain morality guides medical decisions and procedures that tend to eliminate or cancel the legitimacy of women's voices in the face of considered dangerous or threat of social order.
