This article argues against the definition of a corpus – an articulated disposition of documents– as a point of departure for analyses. Instead, it considers its assembly as a constitutive practice of scientific research in the archive. This proposal entails two movements: the denaturation of «already given» units and gathering process that results in a corpus which form responds to specific sociological inquires in the archive. Firstly, we focus on the notion of evidence, on the consequences of disregarding the material nature of meaning and on the determinant effects that Conditions of Production have on it. Secondly, we review some elements of discursive theory which allow us to understand theoretical aspects that have significant effects for the construction of corpora in archival research; we focus on the notion of Interdiscourse. Thirdly, we work on the notion of problematization as a way in which social research, as a theoretical practice, is able to dismantle homogeneous, self-evident periods, problems or objects and enabled to build new ones. Finally, we propose an example of this perspective «at work» that explores the construction of certain «evidences» and aims, from the perspective of a history of the present, to contribute to ongoing debates around Good Living and development in Latin America.
