The aim of this thesis is to analyze disturbed eating habits, psychological distress, quality of life and risk for eating disorder, as well as the possible association between these variables, comparing obese and normal-weight women from Buenos Aires. The sample was composed by 130 adult women: 65 obese patients -at the early stage for this pathology treatment- and 65 normal-weight women. Participants completed selfadministered measures. It was identified that 41.5% of the obese patients are at risk for eating disorder. Moreover, it was found that the obese patients present a greater proportion of certain disturbed eating habits, a higher level of psychological distress and a worse quality of life, compared to their normal-weight peers. This same trend was observed in those obese patients who also are at risk for eating disorder compared to those at non-risk. Finally, the implication of results in prevention, detection and intervention devices for both obesity and eating disorders was discussed. Future research lines are indicated.
