In this article we propose to reflect on the existing positions regarding the formulation and development of a specific curricular design for education in contexts of punitive confinement. Initially we will present a brief reconstruction of the development of prison education in Latin America in general and in Argentina in particular during the last twenty years. Subsequently, based on some theoretical postulates, we will base our position on the need to develop a specific curriculum for this context. Then we will develop the reasons why this proposal should contemplate the potential of the artistic-cultural tools as theoretical and methodological resources of the pedagogical task. Finally, we will present new concerns that allow us to continue reflecting about education in contexts of punitive confinement as an educational policy and around its senses, its challenges, the possible ways of teaching and its possibilities to be constituted as a space for harm reduction and of construction of dignity.
