This essay proposes a series of hypotheses in order to study biblical rewritings in contemporary Argentine narrative. It starts from some theoretical-methodological considerations on “Bible and literature” —recovering hypotheses from Frye, Bloom, Swindell and Agamben. It then seeks to draw a provisional map of biblical rewritings in Argentine narrative, in two movements. Firstly, a major bipartition into what we call fictional biblical apocrypha and biblical transpositions. Secondly, a characterization of the positions from which the Bible has been rewritten in Argentine literature: agnostic, critical, parodic and popular. Our work attempts to briefly exemplify some "cases" for each of these positions, with works by Borges, Saer, Cortázar, Denevi, Castillo, Fresán, Oyola and Cabezón Cámara, among others, in an effort to provide starting points for further research in this area.
