The general objective of this paper is to show, through judicial cases from an Argentinean province, Mendoza, the scope of Peronist legislation related to labour law after 1946 in different branches of activity, the “compliance” of different social actors with the new rules of the game, and to reveal the role played by “judicialisation” in the updating of social protection and the conquest of rights. The aim is to offer a closer look at the ups and downs of the process of installing labour-related social protection in Argentina, where institutional fragmentation - exemplified by the installation of provincial labour courts -, the configuration of the actors and their relationship with the government, played fundamental roles. In order to achieve these objectives, court files and rulings have been used, as well as legal journals and the press. The sources have been worked from an ethnographic perspective, based on a dense description of their content and their context of production.
