Th is article is methodologically based on Social Anthropology. Our objective is to inquire conceptually, historically and legally about indigenous participation and to understand its intersectional genesis, historically and legally situated. Complementarily, we observe the historical, structural and normative relationship with the State, whose purpose of participation to be heard and dialogue requires legitimacy and recognition with that apparatus. In the framework of the ongoing fi eldwork, questions have arisen about what participation in state spaces implies, whether it can be carried out jointly within them, how these dynamics are produced, what repertoires of indigenous participatory practices (ipp) are developed, what are the tools and resources available. Based on the above, we will seek to provide the theoretical, methodological and ethnographic frameworks in which the article is framed. Th en we will make a brief theoretical, historical and legal conceptualization of indigenous participation and fi nally we will observe the dialectical relationships between indigenous participation and the fi gure of the State, with emphasis in the last section on this historical, structural and normative relationship with indigenous peoples.
