This work recovers the way in which a Catholic press medium, Familia Cristiana, contributed to the processing of the dictatorial past and to the democratic reconstruction in Argentina, between the pre-electoral situation of 1983 and the sanction of the so-called Law of Due Obedience (1987). We approach this issue mainly through the editorials of Elena Oshiro, the Pauline nun director of this medium (1973-1988), considering them institutional judgments consistent with the line upheld by the magazine. The article adheres to the statements about the complexity and diversity of the Catholic world in a framework of containment that supposes, in return, a set of limitations. This was evident in Familia Cristiana, directed since its foundation by the Daughters of Saint Paul. Dedicated to topics of varied interest, in the analyzed situation the magazine did not avoid the treatment of current political issues, and included a staff of collaborators (journalists and photographers) of varied political and ideological origins, even from the radicalized left. The case became of special interest when the director was relieved of her duties based on her speech opposing the laws of full stop and due obedience, which also led to the transfer of the nuns who participated in the publishing venture. The main nuclei to be investigated are related to the political agenda: democratic coexistence, social action and human rights. Methodologically, we propose a triangulation between written and visual sources of the magazine, historical analysis on the specific topic and an interview.
