Epitheliocystis is an infectious disease caused by gram-negative intracellular bacteria that affects the skin and gills of fish. In this work, we reported and described for the first time the presence of this disease from the rockfish Sebastes oculatus and the sandperch Pinguipes brasilianus, two characteristic species of reef fish assemblages of Golfo Nuevo (Chubut, Patagonia Argentina). Branchial arches of each individual were examined using histological techniques to determine the presence or absence of cysts. Both species were found to be positive for infection. The observed prevalence and intensity did not show significant differences between species. The percentage of infected individuals was 22 and 23% for rockfish and sandperch respectively, these values were similar to those that have been reported for other wildlife species. Intensity was always less than seven cysts per section, suggesting a state of moderate infection. These results extend the list of species reported as positive for this infection and incorporate the region into the extensive list of registered geographical distribution. In the future it is expected to deepen the relationship between the presence of this disease and the health-status of infected individuals
