Excessive energy consumption is one of the main causes of global warming. Because of this, energy efficiency is one of the central axes in the "Sustainable Development Goals” of the United Nations and it is also included in the Argentine local strategy in "Plan Argentina Innovadora 2030". In the framework of this National Program, the Efficient Lighting Plan (PLAE) is contained, which awards funds to city halls in order to replace existing lighting fixtures with more efficient ones. San Miguel de Tucumán city hall benefited with the PLAE program and as a consequence of it, in 2018 It began a massive replacement of luminaires. Initiating this work, a survey was carried out in 2015, It´s results showed that 98,6% of the luminaires used high-pressure sodium lamps. A second survey was completed in 2021, where 99.2% of the luminaires found were LED technology. This work shows a comparison between the two lighting installations in terms of the minimum lighting requirements demanded by Argentine regulations. Subsequently, exposes about an energy evaluation and calculation of CO2eq emissions associated with energy consumption. Finally, other comparisons were made between both installations in order to establish advantages and disadvantages in terms of aesthetics, maintenance, appearance, safety and sustainability. The results show that energy consumption has decreased by 48.8% and more than 1,077 tons of CO2eq emissions have been avoided annually.
