Latin American cities often lack development programs based on policies and instruments for Territorial Planning. In the peri-urban areas of the city of Mar del Plata, the incompatibility of urban and rural activities in which agrochemicals are applied turns into environmental conflicts. The present work proposes to analyze the current rules related to the regulation of agrochemicals, based on the design of thematic cartography, considering the potentialities and limitations of their implementation in the territory of the district of General Pueyrredon, located in the southeast of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Based on official data, field surveys, and interviews, thematic mapping was developed using a Geographic Information System, which allows for the spatial representation of information contained in the regulations, highlighting the potential and limitations of the territory. The mapping generated, together with the analysis carried out, enables the detection of the regulations' potential and limitations, serving as key inputs for decision-making. The study provides the basis for the Territorial Planning of peri-urban areas, emphasizing the importance of promoting and strengthening initiatives that point towards alternative models. Differences are evident in the concepts and criteria for defining zones, and a lack of updated information is also apparent, which complicates decision-making. On the other hand, a paradigm shift in production methods is gaining strength across different academic, institutional, and community spheres, promoting more sustainable alternative models.
