The article ventures into the singular and suggestive work of Silvia Rivera Cusicanqui. Her particular understanding of temporality –which she develops within the framework of her hypothesis on the Andean colonial structure– is highlighted. This hypothesis states that each present interacts with previous temporalities which are marked by unresolved conflicts, and result from the colonial inheritance. First, the paper points out the methodological path travelled by the Aymara thinker, going from Oral History to the Sociology of the Image. Second, categories and axial theoretical axes are addressed, such as internal colonialism, multi-temporality, non-contemporary contradictions, Andean colonial miscegenation and colonial patriarchy.
