This article proposes that Frogs, which was presented a little later that Bacchae and that the Euripides’death, is a hidden homage to the poet newly dead. With the figure of a mid-tragic Dionysus, mirror of de mid-comic Dionysus of Bacchae, it is presented in burlesque tone a competence in which Aeschylus and Euripides tie with regard to the art. The selection of Aeschylus to return to Athens and to help for her salvation is due to a reason of historic circumstances and of social advantage, no to the aesthetic arguments that are discussed. The comedy makes valid his capacity to judge the poets’work.
