The spatial reconfiguration that cities went through with the advent of the post-Fordist regime revealed the insufficiency of some disciplines to theorize the urban phenomenon. With the financialization, flexibility and computerization, the city became an elusive entity to the homogenizing gaze. The poststructuralism on the 70s., the spatial turn on the 80s. and the cultural studies on the 90s, updated the urban approach from a critical and transdisciplinary perspective. This paper proposes a journey through the inheritances, development and consolidation of Urban Studies. This field, still magnanimous, is made up of a melting pot of actors, objects and methodologies that provide novel approach to the problem of the urban and of space. Using a tripartite diagram -the global, the local and the third space- and trying to evade the most common notions of the spatial doxa, some elements will be offered for the construction of a spatialized genealogy of this study area.
