We deal, in this article, with the noticeable general tendency towards the displacement of ancestral languages triggered by the mass reception of transatlantic immigration in Argentina, in the late nineteenth century and early twentieth. In this context, we focus on the process of language maintenance and shift in an atypically conservative immigrant community, the Volga German community, which only in recent decades determinedly enrolled in the general trend. We tried to periodize the various stages of sociolinguistic trajectory of this community, analyzing particularly the latest manifestations of the process at a time when the community interest in the recovery of own cultural contents is visibly increased.
