In the last decades there have been significant technological advances which had some impact oneducation. Even so, for more than two centuries, university educational system has maintained constant certain practices, mainly those related to evaluation. The extreme situation imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic, took us to a deep rethinking of how, why, what for, and why we do what we do at all educational levels. It invited us to rethink current paradigms and formulate new alternatives, which even when they are not effective, means a course change towards a new model that adjusts to the new context and provides answers that could not be given with the old paradigms. In this context, General Chemistry Chair in the Engineering School in Salta National University, quickly reformulated its practices and ways of evaluating them, with the difficulties inherent to a first-year subject based on experimentation. Results of the implemented changes, compared to those of the previous year, and considering the students response, are encouraging not only because they have allowed us to continue teaching successfully the subject, but also to continue deepening them in the future.
