Admission to university in Argentina has been a central axis of educational policy since the democratic recovery. Starting in the 21st century, the country left behind a system of elites and moved towards a mass system, driven by the mandatory middle level and inclusion policies. However, this expansion faces challenges, such as insufficient financing and the need to diversify institutional offerings. These situations have recently promoted research on university admission. This article is based on a documentary analysis and a review of research on university admission in Argentina in the last 10 years. The constructed mapping allows the grouping of studies according to their main focus of interest: characterization of incoming students, their academic trajectories, institutional support devices, pedagogical practices at admission, complementary programs, transition between levels, legislation and regulatory frameworks, history of admission, impact of the pandemic and virtuality. The review of the literature invites us to advance in a deep reflection on the Right to Education in a context where free and unrestricted admission puts pressure on the higher level and universities are continually “rethinking” their income. In these times when the rights achieved appear threatened, continuing to think about and affirm the right to higher education is crucial for the construction of a more just and democratic society.
