The present article attempts to study aesthetic inter-vention processes and productions in public spaces from a power perspective to understand the way in which they can become street social participation practices, in a social and political sense that trans-forms space. In aesthetic production process it would be possible to observe the display and the retreat of collective identity, which is always changing, since it is part of a process. It would be possible also to identify a historical memory (which throbs between remembrance and forgetting, the construction and the deconstruction of time). We understand that the differentiated experience of public space(s) through certain aesthetic products/processes could be ex-pressing not only the fact that space belongs to and is destined for everybody, but would also imply the possibility of asserting political commitment as a right and a duty, and through the physical and concrete occupation and transformation of material space. This includes, as part of social relationships of power, the possibility and the need of dispute and antagonism, and not the imposition of a conciliatory homogenei-ty: public spaces would be sites to meet and separate within a (material) territory of competing discourses. We will focus on some cases which are located in the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina, such as the so–called «siluetazo» (molding of body outlines with paint repre-senting desaparecidos),Teatro Abierto (Open Theater), street theater, community theater, the intervention of neighbors on streets and buildings by means of the production of memento tiles and the restoration ofCentros Clandestinos de Detención (Clandestine Deten-tion Centers), so as to identify historical continuities and common itineraries cutting through different artistic disciplines and cultural groups.
