Reproduction is a crucial component in the ecology of birds and studies on reproductive biology provide a fundamental basis for understanding life histories. We describe a Rhopospina fruticeti nest with eggs and present environmental data from the nest site in the Puna region, San Juan, Argentina. On February 5, 2023, during a wildlife survey, we observed a R. fruticeti nest. We placed a datalogger at a height of 1.5 m to record the air temperature and humidity every 5 minutes for four days. The nest was built on a Lycium fuscum bush and was made up of two types of plant fibers. The mean nest temperature was 29.63 ± 1.19 °C. The nest contained two greenish ovoid eggs with small brown spots distributed over the entire surface, although more grouped at the obtuse pole. The egg temperature was 35.7 °C. The nesting site presented a large daily variation in temperature and humidity. Our observation constitutes the first nesting record for the Puna region, San Juan, Argentina and presents some differences with previous information on this species. In this way, we expand the knowledge about the reproductive biology of R. fruticeti and provide information about the environmental conditions it faces in a high altitude and desert sector of the Puna.
