Resumen
Images obtained with coherent illumination show a multiplicative noise known as speckle. Particularly in synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite images the presence of this spotted noise makes it difficult the reconnaissance and delimitation of homogeneous regions and the assessment of the backscatter coefficient. We propose here a method for border detection between homogeneous regions. This method is based on Jensen Shannon divergence (JSD). Images are analyzed line by line displacing a fixed sized window vertically and/or horizontally. The window is divided in two segments of equal length and the probability density functions (PDF) associated to each segment are compared. The PDFs are approximated by the kernel density method, a non parametric approximation. In this way it is not required a prticular model for speckle. A simple criteria has been adopted for the significance value. Results obtained with satellite images are included.
