This proposal is the result of research work carried out under a Doctoral scolarship granted by the Nacional Council of Scientific and Technical Research (CONICET), from which it tries to investigate the social representations that students in third, fourth and fifth year of the Faculty of Psychology and Philosophy and Letters at the National University of Tucuman UNT) embody the “political leader” in order to notice the degree of its impact on participation processes in university political life. Taking into account the social representations theory developed by Moscovici (1961/1979) and the central core theory proposed by Abric (1976, 1987, 2001), we attempted access to the typical elements and dynamics of the representational phenomenon between one of the leading characters of University life: student political activists. With the help of characterization questionnaires (Flament, 1994/2001, 1996) as technique for data collection and model curve (Vergés, 2001, Abric, 2003, 2007) for their analysis, it could be observed that these young students conceived the political character in a predominantly “positive and ideal” direction, referred to actors from the extrauniversity political space.
