Vaccines are instruments of great historical complexity, as they are crossed by political, economic, social and cultural aspects. This article highlights the interweaving that characterizes these objects based on three examples: the development of the Spanish flu vaccine, the path of BCG in the early to mid-twentieth century and the scientific and technical changes in polio vaccines.
