The reflexive function is the ability of an individual to understand their own mental states and those of others, thereby explaining their actions. This study validated the Brief Reflective Functioning Questionnaire (RFQ-8) in a non-clinical sample from Argentina. It was found that the unifactorial model is the most appropriate, although two items (1 and 7) had low factorial loadings. The scale showed good reliability and stability over time. Significant negative correlations were found between the RFQ-8 and Mindfulness (MAAS), and significant positive correlations with the anxious and depressive symptomatology of the HSCL-11. There were no significant correlations with the subscales of the IRI. All items except for item 7 measure hypomentalization. In conclusion, the Argentine version of the RFQ-8 has good psychometric properties for measuring hypomentalization in non-clinical populations.
