The purpose of this article is to make contributions about the quality criteria of the Images of Family Relationships Test or Bolitas Test interpretation protocol (Usandivaras, 2004). This instrument allows family functioning in terms of alliances, flexibility, cohesion, belonging and evolution. The methodological strategy was the triangulation of researchers carried out within the framework of three studies over families of children housed in alternative residences (167 people). The contribution was based on the original criteria of the tests produced in 1982 with participants of brief psychological treatments, to which adjustments and results of evaluations of families at social risk were incorporated. A triangulation process was carried out in three successive and independent stages using focus groups and a test of agreement from expert judges. Consistency was found in the emergent and axial subcategories scored for these families groups. These results constitute a valuable contribution to the diagnosis of the functioning of multi-problem families.
