In this article, we analyze the professionalization of nursing in the province of Neuquén, arguing that it is not only the process of building a labor or professional group but also a political group. For the analysis, various sources are used: a) bibliography on the history of health policies in this province and on the nursing sector, b) historical documents of the provincial government and of the National University of Comahue, c) semi-structured in-depth interviews to the members of the Nursing Union of Neuquén. We study the period between the creation of the first Public Assistance in 1913 until the creation of SEN in 2009 and its subsequent growth until 2016. We will show that the nurses experienced their professionalization as a collective process where educational, labor, professional and political aspects were articulated.
