The article presents results of a qualitative research that investigated the bonds of authority that are established between students and teachers at a public university. The clipping of the work focuses on a case: the bond maintained by an advance student and a professor in the Medicine program. The technique used to construct the data was the in-depth interview. The results highlight the personal and political nature of the pedagogical bonds of authority, by vindicating the centrality of affect. Friendship and kinship were two figures of affectivity that the student and the teacher used, respectively, to illustrate how they perceived the bond they maintained. These figures show a continuity, as in the Moebius strip, between the academic or political and the extra-academic or personal, challenging the ancient dualism that separates and opposes them.
