The linear distance between the head noun and the verb, and the type of modifier, was investigated during subject-verb agreement production in Spanish. By using an error-elicitation paradigm, with an oral sentence-completion task, an experiment was designed in which the linear distance between the head noun and the verb (short or long), the type of modifier (prepositional phrase or relative clause) and number of interfering or local noun (singular or plural) was manipulated. Results suggest that distance affects the processing of agreement and contribute to the appearance of attraction errors. Nonetheless, other relevant factors for Spanish are both the structure in which the interfering noun is inserted and the syntactic position that it occupies within the determiner phrase subject.
