This article explores the notions of homosexuality and family, as well as its connections, based on an analysis of Diferentes, a gay magazine published in Buenos Aires the 1980´s. We argue that, hand in hand whit an affirmation of homosexual identity, Diferentes promoted an ethos (in its polysemy of ethics, credibility, character, behavior, and identity). Although it did not claim the nuclear family model explicitly, it tended to discredit the occasional and anonymous sex, and to value, instead, some of that model´s main characteristics, such as the creation of stable, lasting, monogamous couples, based on affectivity. This is a contribution to the historical detection of focal points in the production of meanings useful to understand later familiarist claims (like the civil union and marriage) by local gay and lesbian movements.
