This article explores the linkages between work and learning organization, production, and information/ knowledge-based development in Argentina during the last two decades. With this aim, it focuses on “artistic” (also known as “classical” or “traditional”) artisan production in transition to capitalist workshop production in the visual/plastic arts branch of the culture industry following the implementation of Federal Education Law (1993, No. 24195). Is the implementation of this law training students in the artistic fields to become future autonomous, visual/plastic arts “contents” producers or semi-skilled waged workers in the “factory phase” of the cultural industry? What lessons can be learned from this exercise as a contribution to a development agenda based on the defence of the indivisible civil, political, economic, social, and cultural dimensions of men’s and women’s human rights?
