The following paper is a reflexion on the importance of the oral information circulation in the rural societies of the 19th and early 20th century in Argentina, especially in the province of Buenos Aires. We particularly focus on how people, through recommendations, gathered useful information in order to guarantee access to health for themselves and their families during a period of medicalization. To this end we make use of folkloric and judicial documentation in which we can see the importance of orality and the reputation of individuals when practicing as agents of popular medicine.
