Argentine drama studies maintain a persistent theoretical and identity dilemma: the homogenization of the so-called interior theater, that is, the writing and performing practices produced in peripheral areas. We understand this political and imaginary representation as a formation of otherness that exposes an essentialist and homogenizing conception of regional artistic practices, by annulling their heterogeneities and cultural distinctions. Among other readings, this formation of the other-interior is observed in the spatial constructions of dramatic texts. : erefore, in this article we analyze and compare a particular poetic construct of border in contemporary dramaturgies of the Argentine Patagonia and Northwest regions, characterized by a historical territoriality in which the subjectivities of the interior and their corresponding social processes are shown repetitive, rigid and waterproof. : us, the border 9 gures designed in these dramaturgies reveal a di; erential poetic locus that responds to the traditional essentialist operations, as we will demonstrate in the case study formed by the plays El sueño inmóvil by Carlos M. Alsina and Bálsamo by Maite Aranzábal.
