The present work was carried out taking into consideration the data obtained during the teaching of the Human Ecology subject in the years 2017 and 2019. In the current study plan for the Bachelor’s Degree in Health Education of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (UNJu), Human Ecology corresponds to the first year and is dictated in the first four-month period. As an accreditation requirement, students, in addition to passing the partial exams, must submit a final work in which all the contents addressed during the course are applied, the Chair has detected that students have difficulties in the development of the final report. The objective of this work was to evaluate the impact of the implementation of the PBL (problem-based learning) methodology on academic performance of Human Ecology students. For this, the students were provided with a bibliography on studies carried out in the province of Jujuy, whose subject matter is linked to the concepts addressed in the theoretical ones. To verify the impact of the PBL methodology, the total number of approved students (regular and promoted) was taken as an indicator over the total number of students who took the course in 2019 and these results were compared with those obtained during 2017, year in which did not apply this methodology. The total number of students who passed the course was higher in the year in which the PBL was implemented. It is also observed that the condition of free students decreased by 10% with the application of said methodology. This alternative to the usual form of practical classes allowed the students to carry out a critical analysis of the contents given in the theoretical classes, giving it a real and everyday context.
