We present here the first published field survey or the fish fauna for the Olta river, located in the southeast of La Rioja province (Argentina). We collected specimens of Jenynsia multidentata, Cnesterodon decemmaculatus, Trichomycterus corduvensis, Gambusia holbrooki, and Cheirodon interruptus. The last taxon represent the first documented presence for La Rioja province. Further studies are needed to determine if Cheirodon interruptus has been always present in this river or if their current presence is a result from a recent humanmediated translocation.
