This paper analyzes business collective action in the face of the debates held in the United States about China's incorporation to the World Trade Organization (WTO). The study of this paradigmatic case is the starting point to discuss the different theoretical approaches to business collective action in order to systematize a critical perspective. The proposed approach emphasizes that we must pay attention to its historical dimension and, therefore, to the particularities of the United States as a main world power and to the specific dynamics of the neoliberal offensive and the internationalization of production since the 1970s. In this regard, the proposed perspective inscribes business collective action in the relationship between the State, the dominant social class and the dynamics of class struggle.
