This article is framed in the research questions and concerns about the persistence and rupture of state imaginaries, produced by the police institution in two moments in the history of immigration in the City of Buenos Aires, about the links between immigration (European and immigration from neighboring countries, respectively, as regards each of the moments in question) and crime. As a possible way to reconstruct such imaginaries, I present in this article the categories that became core categories after applying the constant comparative method of the Grounded Theory on the empirical domains of Revista de Policía (1897-1939) and Revista de Policía y Criminalística (1995-2011). Inspired by the research carried out by Mariana Galvani in her doctoral thesis, I believe that working with these media allows us to know the classifications that are put into play in the configuration of a certain police identity. In turn, a comparative reading of both resources constitutes an approximation to the question of what are the ruptures and continuities in the perspectives that the police construct about the “other”.
