This paper uses Oral History methodologies to reconstruct the subjective dimension of the processes of political organization that the Mapuce communities in the city of Neuquén went through. It specifically raises questions about perceptions, projects and debates brought into play in political practices of the lof Newen Mapu and Puel Pvjv to identify which were the issues that oriented the courses of action since their constitution in the decade of 1970 until the present. It is argued that this process can be analyzed in two stages, characterized by the existence of climateswith certain conceptions about territory and identity, by the importance of different issues and by therelationship between all of this and the grater provincial process of political organization. This way, the article aims to show how the initial instance of self-recognition, by means of a process of constant reflexivity, enabled the development of the political organization in the city and the elaboration of different solutions for the issues raised in urban contexts.
