The growing global concern about the shortage of fossil fuels, increased energy requirements and environmental protection has led to the search for alternative raw materials. In this context, microalgae emerge as a source of lipids for biodiesel production. The aim of this study was to evaluate the composition, by column chromatographic separation, of saponifiable and unsaponifiable lipids extracted in soxhlet equipment with hexane solvent from Nannochloropsis oculata microalgae,, with the aim of developing methods for the complete utilization of this third generation feedstock. The characterization and quantification of different sets of components present in the extraction was performed by Thin Layer Chromatography and Gas Chromatography. We were able to identify five families of lipids, identified as carotenes (2,59%), fat (38,31%), oil (10,82%) and higher polarity lipids (phospholipids, glycolipids, xanthophylls, chlorophylls, etc.) (26,26%), being retained in the chromatographic column approximately 22,02% of the mass attributed to gums and mucilages, lipids degradation products.
