Countries: Colombia and Peru 22.22%, Ecuador 18.54%, Argentina and Brazil 11.11%, Chile 3.70%, Honduras, Paraguay and Venezuela respectively. The analysis made it possible to distinguish three subcategories and these are the Emerging Central Category: Working conditions of health professionals in South America during the COVID-19 pandemic. Conclusions: COVID-19 deepened problems of the health system in South America; demanding patient care, generating uncertainty, physical and emotional demands in care, and exposing health personnel to great occupational risks. Healthcare centers must seek strategic plans that ensure working conditions and environment in a crisis situation. The problem-solving, adaptation, and survival capacity of this care group towards a different normality from that known before the pandemic was evidenced. That is, a heteronormality that is still uncertain.
