This study aimed at analyzing the impact of positive emotions on cognitive abilities to solve interpersonal problems. Researches have shown that positive emotions enhance cognitive flexibility and promote creative solutions development for problem-solving (Isen, 2001, 2002). The sample consisted of 120 children, aged 7 to 9, attending state primary schools located in poverty-stricken areas in Argentina. MANOVAs tests were done and no meaningful results were found. F(10, 224) = 0, 94, p = .49, however the results showed that children who scored high values of positive emotions were able to come up with alternative assertive solutions, anticipated positive consequences and took assertive decisions when comparing with a group of children who got low values of positive emotions. These results coincide with previous hypotheses and studies so some future study should continue in order to deepen this topic. The promotion of socially competent behaviors enables healthy and functional interactions during middle childhood.
