The relationship between some guarani plant names and two myths related to the origin of a palm species is studied. The discussion exposed on the basis of these narratives allowed linked these narratives with morphological and utilitarian attributes. I conclude the root of these palm names are ambivalent and it's probably more ancient of the common word employed for enunciate these attributes.
