This article is produced on the framework of my doctoral research on configuration of sex-affective economies in Rincón de los Sauces, an oil town in Argentine Norpatagonia, which has shown the importance of situating the ethnographic case study within the so-called “comarca petrolera neuquina”, oil production circuit of the province, which includes the cities of Plaza Huincul, Cutral Co and more recently Añelo, with the exploration of Vaca Muerta. In turn, and above all, it is also relevant in analytical terms to situate the region and recover some background to reconstruct and analyze the link between the sex trade and the hydrocarbon industry. In this way, the objective is to investigate this relationship by analyzing the case of the “casita de chapa", a brothel installed and run by the state company Yacimientos Petrolíferos Fiscales (YPF) in Plaza Huincul, from the beginning to the middle of the century XX. For this, I will return to a series of historical sources, primary and secondary, and speeches of different actors about prostitution in oil industry contexts, with the purpose of analyzing the meanings produced on the emergence and permanence of the sexual trade in extractive sites in the past and that they are updated in the present.
