El mapa de Anaximandro: primer aporte geográfico a la racionalidad científica

Abstract

El nacimiento de la ciencia en Mileto (Jonia) en el siglo VI aC se encuentra relacionado con la necesidad de obtener explicaciones racionales al funcionamiento la realidad. En este contexto Anaximandro (610-546 aC) realiza importantes aportes al entendimiento del origen, la estructura del universo y de la Tierra, y culmina con la construcción de un mapa del mundo publicado en su libro sobre la naturaleza. El presente trabajo analizará la construcción del mapa en el contexto científico y el de una Geografía que intenta representar un mundo medible y predecible. Esto proporciona una importante base para la futura definición de la Geografía como ciencia espacial.

The birth of science in Miletus (Ionia) in the sixth century bC is related to the need to obtain rational explanations of reality. In this context Anaximander (610-546 bC) makes important contributions to the understanding the origin, the structure of the universe and the Earth, and culminates with the construction of a world map published in his book on nature. The present work analyzes the construction of the map in the scientific context where Geography presents a measurable and predictable world. This provides an important basis for the future definition of Geography as a spatial science.
