En búsqueda de la América del Sur: agentes secretos, policías y proxenetas en la Liga de las Naciones en la década de 1920

Abstract

Este artículo examina los intercambios entre agentes de la Liga de las Naciones y las autoridades de Buenos Aires y Río de Janeiro en el marco de la primera gran investigación internacional sobre trata de mujeres. Marcados por distancias culturales, estos intercambios resultaron en la intensificación de la idea de ?América del Sur? como una región peculiar en una geografía moral mundial. Aunque era su intención crear condiciones para una colaboración internacional, los agentes no reconocieron los sentidos locales de la legislación anti-trata y su utilidad para las mismas autoridades policiales que ellos consideraban ineficientes.

The technique had developed an active role in the constitution of borderlands. The aim of the text is to describe characteristics and functions that technique acquired in two diff erent situations : within the process of formation of the Latin American National States and within the framework of globalization. While in the first period the technique helped tame the nature and fixed the boundaries of national territories, in the second period, it promoted the control over the mobility of population. In the light of this background, it is understood that the technique participates in the reinforcement of the borders of some national states and in the emergence of others that do not necessarily fit with the boundaries of the territories of the states. At the same time, bodies could become territories.
