María Rosa Oliver (1898-1977), de la historia a la autobiografía

Abstract

Aquí indago en algunos problemas teóricos que se han vinculado a la escritura autobiográfica, a partir del análisis de la autobiografía de la escritora argentina María Rosa Oliver (1898-1977). La autora va hilando (sic) determinada identidad—feminista, antifascista— en el proceso mismo de la escritura de sus recuerdos. En especial, analizo los relatos acerca de sus luchas contra los fascismos (español y alemán), en su intersección con sus luchas contra la subordinación femenina, como los modos específicos de una impugnación más general en contra de la ideología hegemónica que naturaliza la desigualdad (de clase y género). Sin embargo, esta resistencia también encuentra sus límites, vinculados con la propia escritura autobiográfica.

In this paper I consider certain theoretical problems that are linked to autobiographical writing based on the analysis of the autobiography of the Argentinean writer María Rosa Oliver (1898-1977). The author weaves a very specific identity for herself —as a feminist and an anti-fascist— through the very process of writing her memoirs. In particular, I analyze the way her stories about her struggle against both Spanish and German fascism intersect with those about her struggle against female subordination, these being the specific modes she used to enact a broader challenge against the hegemonic ideology that naturalizes both class and gender inequality. However, there are also limits to this resistance, which are connected to autobiographical writing itself.
