Arte y política: el arte mendocino de los setenta. Censura, circulación alternativa y debates del período

Abstract

El trabajo aborda el campo artístico mendocino durante los años setenta, desde tres dimensiones complementarias: la censura como un factor que determina la circulación artística, el surgimiento entre los artistas de dinámicas de resistencia y los debates que estos sostuvieron en torno a su práctica. La censura institucional de los gobiernos de facto obligó a algunos artistas a resistir desde un circuito alternativo al que representaban las instancias oficiales. Al mismo tiempo, en el contexto de la Guerra Fría, la Revolución Cubana y el gobierno socialista de Salvador Allende, muchos artistas se volcaron hacia una activa militancia de izquierda. Surgía entonces un nuevo eje de discusión, vinculado al interés por definir la función del arte en una sociedad abatida por la violencia.

The present work is an approach to the art field in Mendoza during the 70s. The analysis perspective has three complementary dimensions: the censorship as a determinative factor of artistic circulation, the rise of resistance dynamics between artists, and the discussions than they held concerning their practice. The institutional censorship of the military dictatorship forced some artists to resist through an alternative circuit, different from those Institutions they represented. Meanwhile, in context of the Cold War, the Cuban Revolution and the socialistic government of Salvador Allende, many artists became left-wing activists.Thus a new focal point in the discussion emerged, which was related with the interest to define the role of art in a violent social context of military dictatorship.
