Inmigración y subalternidad en el cine argentino: Nobleza Gaucha

Abstract

A comienzos del siglo XX, el temor a la a la multitud inmigratoria y cosmopolita, llevó a un número considerable de intelectuales y políticos argentinos a plantearse la necesidad de crear un sentimiento de pertenencia a la nación, construir una identidad argentina que permitiera "nacionalizar" al conglomerado migrante. Gran parte de las manifestaciones artísticas y culturales del momento fueron funcionales a este proyecto de la clase dominante, entre ellos el cine, que revelado como un medio ideal para la configuración de este imaginario colectivo, excluyó la crítica social y omitió la presencia de las clases subalternas. Sin embargo, en la década posterior al Centenario de la Revolución de Mayo de 1810, aparecieron una serie de films que otorgaron visibilidad tanto a los problemas de orden político y social como a los grupos subalternos. En el presente texto se analizará Nobleza Gaucha, la primera película de aquella serie, haciendo énfasis en su representación de los grupos subalternos inmigrantes y criollos, lo que implica considerar su particular relectura del criollismo así como su búsqueda del realismo, desafiante para los discursos hegemónicos.

In the early twentieth century, the fear of cosmopolitan immigration crowd, led to a large number of Argentine intellectuals and politicians to consider the need to create a sense of belonging to the nation, to build an Argentine identity that allows to "nationalize" the immigrant conglomerate. Most of the artistic and cultural expressions of the period were functional to this project of the dominant class, including cinema, which revealed as an ideal vehicle for the configuration of this collective imaginary, excluded the social criticism and omitted the presence of the subaltern classes. But, in the decade after the Centennial of the Revolution of May of 1810, appeared a series of films that gave visibility to both the political and social problems, and the subaltern groups. This paper discusses Nobleza Gaucha, the first film in those series, emphasizing its representation of subaltern groups, immigrants and natives, which involves considering its particular reinterpretation of “criollismo” and its quest for realism, defiantly for hegemonic discourses.
