Habitar una geografía intempestiva. Crítica, creación y perspectivas poshumanas

Abstract

Buena parte de la geografía ha promovido históricamente imágenes jerárquicas y estáticas basadas en la separación y la relación asimétrica entre cultura y naturaleza. Esta perspectiva ha limitado nuestra comprensión de los complejos entrelazamientos socio-ecológicos que configuran el mundo. Ante esta situación, este artículo de reflexión teórica plantea la necesidad de un desplazamiento epistémico en la disciplina. Nos preguntamos: ¿es posible reorientar el pensamiento geográfico hacia expresiones terrestres concretas que consideren los ensamblajes humanos y no humanos, así como las relaciones de poder que los estructuran y jerarquizan? Esto contrasta con muchas de las imágenes abstractas y despolitizadas generadas en el ámbito geográfico que ayudan a perpetuar un orden demasiado fijo. Frente a este desafío, proponemos la idea de habitar una geografía intempestiva, caracterizada por un doble movimiento de crítica y creación. Esta propuesta busca, por un lado, desmantelar las imágenes que sustentan la estructura social dominante (crítica), y, por otro, fomentar la composición de nuevas imágenes, tramas y territorios que reflejen la multiplicidad de realidades existentes (creación). Aspiramos a que esta aproximación no solo enriquezca el debate académico, sino que también aporte herramientas para imaginar y construir otras geografías que respondan a las complejidades del mundo actual.

A significant part of geography has historically promoted hierarchical and static images based on the separation and asymmetric relationship between culture and nature. This perspective has constrained our understanding of the complex socioecological entanglements that shape the world. In response to this situation, this theoretical reflection article argues for the need for an epistemic shift in the discipline. We ask: is it possible to reorient geographic thought toward concrete terrestrial expressions that consider human and non-human assemblages, as well as the power relations that structure and hierarchize them? This stands in contrast to many of the abstract and depoliticized images produced within geographic work that help sustain the established order. Faced with this challenge, we propose the idea of inhabiting an untimely geography, characterized by a dual movement of critique and creation. This approach seeks on the one hand, to dismantle the images that uphold the dominant social structure (critique), and on the other, to foster the composition of new images, narratives, and territories that reflect the multiplicity of existing realities (creation). We hope that this perspective not only enriches academic debate but also provides tools to imagine and construct other geographies that address the complexities of the contemporary world.
