This article presents the first results of a proposal to remedy the absence of information regarding the independent cultural sector in cultural measurements by incorporating the perspective of its actors. We propose a participatory methodological approach that includes collective diagnostic meetings with representatives of independent cultural organizations in the city of Buenos Aires and in-depth interviews with people responsible for these spaces. The main characteristics and problems of the sector are grouped into four axes: territory, organization, work and programming, around which a proposal of indicators is then formulated. It concludes with the need to restore the perspective of the actors of independent culture and incorporate them as part of the sources to generate reliable, relevant and updated information that is relevant both for the strategies of the sector itself and for decision-making regarding cultural public policies.
